50's sci-fi classic: Forbidden Planet's Robbie The Robot is exposed as a randy retrobot!

Forbidden Planet (1956) is undoubtedly one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. Although I was minus 7 year old at the time when it was made! (it's a movie from the 50's, not the 60's, 70' or 80's) but it still qualifies here as I watched it on TV as a young boy. Indeed, you can talk about any genre of movie (or TV series) at Ronnie's Retro Cafe from as far back as the 30's, for example, think Laurel and Hardy, or The Phil Silvers Show (50's) Anyway getting back to the topic in question, take a look at the poster for the movie, it seems a little naughty for the time actually, with Anne Francis semi-clad and Robbie the Robot's expression a one of focused determination! Seriously though, if you haven't seen this movie before or not for some time and you're a lover of classic movies, you should invest in Forbidden Planet . I spent many a happy hour trying to recreate Robbie out of Lego...er, last week! (...only joking, it was at least 35 years ago) with quite decent results as I can remember. I had difficulty with Anne Francis however and had to abandon that particular project unfortunately...but still had a happy time trying!!! The cinematography, special effects, sound effects, music and the whole feel to the movie is more like an animated masterwork on canvas, very very beautiful to the eye, and the story is intelligent and witty (mostly courtesy of Robbie, with the mother of all double entendre's coming from the very same tinny gentleman). I won't say here as I'll let you have fun listening out for it...and it's a killer!

What is your favorite Sci-Fi movie or TV series from your youth? i.e. The Twilight Zone, Dr Who, Blake's 7, Star Trek, The Clangers! etc. Please write in with your reasons and observations, thanks...Oh, and while I'm on the subject, this will probably only apply to people from the UK perhaps, but can anyone remember The Tomorrow People, I'm sure you can, and the spooky opening credit sequence and spine-tingling theme tune - truly eerie. I remember hiding behind the sofa when that came on. I also hid behind the sofa when captain Black appeared at the start of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (ahh, there's another classic sci-fi series) Did anyone else out there ever hide behind the sofa, or was I the only one? Please let me know...it's a matter of urgency! * The only other thing/person that made me seek refuge behind the sofa was (and still does to this day)...er, Grace Jones, bless her.
